Main points of the Meeting held on Tuesday 31st May 2005

covering the period ; Sunday 22nd - Saturday 28th May :

___________

A good week with 19 Magnets tested - 13 Dipoles (1 with Magnetic

Measurements) & 6 SSS Quadrupoles (2 with Thermal Cycles).

Could have been even better, but for the multiple quenches on three

Magnets and the two with Thermal Cycles.

Cryogenic tests in progress for ~24 hours on TBA2, so no quenches

possible on Cluster A during this time.

Intervention on TBF2 for replacement of Silver Shoe, beginning this

Tuesday morning & likely to last until Friday evening.

The correctors (C/D & E/F) are not connected on TBD2 due to the

cables being too short. Only di-electric tests possible until extension

fitted & connected up.

Many problems occuring too often with V-Clamp connection on SSS.

There can be bad solder joints, wires crossed, breaks in current leads

etc, etc. Louis wishes to be informed of each occurence from now on.

Giorgio advises that time can be saved if ICS do not close "manchette"

until after the IAP@Warm extra test.

Ongoing problem with 60A current leads connection for Correctors on

SSS. An incompatability concerning some impeding insulation has been

resolved but the cable lugs are still not reversible so care must be taken

in choosing the correct side facing down. A solution will be found to

build up the offending side of the cable lugs so that they are reversible.

Many PLCSE communication problems for which the best solution at

present is to switch OFF then ON again the PLCSE control unit. This

is being looked into.

Stephane re-iterates the fact that a Quench at a minimum powering of

6.5 kA must precede LHC Cycle (MM2), as questions are still being

asked concerning this.

Enjoy the remainder of the week,

David Allen
