Dear all,

Following are the highlights of Tuesday's meeting on 28 / 06 / 2005:

1. 09 dipoles (2 with magnetic measurements) and 3 SSS (1 repeat) were tested last week.

2. Magnet 2524 which was tested on the A2 bench was connected again on the F2 bench. There was a discussion on why this was so. Pierre informed that this may have been because the performance of the magnet was not good, so it was put on the F2 bench for retesting.

It may please be noted by all that finally it has been decided to reject this magnet.

3. There is an on – going discussion on whether special (different) training rules need to be applied for magnets of the 500 series (X5XX). It was informed that till this is decided the magnets in this series should be put on standby if they encounter any problems during testing.

4. SSW tests on the special SSS on the D2 bench could not be conducted smoothly. Richard informed that this was so because the return cable from input of Metrolab card was not connected.

It was clarified that this connection is supposed to be a part of the system and not part of the operating procedures for SSW. A clarification is to be sought from Nikolai on whether this cable should be left connected even during training quenches on the special SSS.

5. A request was made to have a documented list of procedures and expected results for SSW on special SSS. Guy informed that he will look into this aspect.

6. There was a data acquisition arming error on the E cluster. This has been looked into by Richard. The hf crate has been replaced.

7. There was a problem with the HF data acquisition on the A cluster on Wednesday. Richard informed that this was due to a problem with the VME CPU card.

8. There was ice formation on the current leads on the C2 bench on Wednesday. Jean – Paul has informed that he will look into it.

9. There was a problem with the AQA analysis of PT5.2 on the same bench on Wednesday night. It was seen that the differential signal D1 – D2 was zero (A flat line). The problem was investigated in the morning and it was found that this was due to a damaged splitter. It was rectified.

For information to all: Giorgio and Richard have informed that whenever HF data is missing due to errors (HF not armed, Voltage tap signals not present in AQA etc.) then the analysis could also be done using the LF data, by using the LFOFF application in the transient mode.

10. AQA analysis of minimum energy quench @ 11850 A on F2 bench was showing an alarm (DTV too high - more than – 280 V). This was discussed with Pierre who had suggested special tests to check coupling between heater and magnet. Later the source of the error was found to be in the electronics (The voltmeter was not reading the correct capacitor voltage. So the problem may be in the power supply powering the capacitors or the capacitor bank). Equipment support will look into the problem.

11. There was a problem during the SSW test on the D2 bench. The software was continuously checking the motion status of the motors. Nikolai has informed that in this case first exit the software program (by pressing Cntrl C), switch off the motor controller and restart it again. A troubleshooting list with respect to the SSW tests on special SSS is being prepared by Eric.

12. There was a problem with the temperature sensor on MB2191 on Thursday (it was reading 1.55K instead of 1.9K) This was due to a bad contact and an NC has been opened.

13. It was found on the D cluster, while doing IAP at cold that the channel 10 and 11 cables were inverted due to which the offsets could not be adjusted for these channels. Equipment support has been requested to provide splitters for this cluster.

14. It was reported that SPA (Slow power abort test) could not be launched on the D1 bench. Giorgio informed that this was because the inductance value was not correct in the power application.

For information to all: While launching any test especially on the SSS, the inductance value in the power application should be verified and if necessary it should be correctly entered in the power application running on TEMA.

15. MM2 test was re - launched on the A cluster as there was a SPA during the test. It was informed that this was due to dearth of pumping power for the cryo pumps because of a micro power cut. Due to this the magnet temperature was not stable during this test. It was also informed that there was an absence of alarm for this condition of a micro power cut. Jean – Paul has informed that now this alarm is present.

Further, the load line test was repeated with the new version of MM application (to test the new version). It was informed that problems which were present with this version will be rectified.

16. Richard has informed that now there is new DAQ hardware on the A and E cluster.

For information to all: Giorgio and Richard have informed that incase of communication problems with the server and clients on any bench, the application should be first exited from TEMA, then the concerned PLCSE should be switched off and restarted.

17. Richard has informed that there is no need for opening an NC more than once.

18. There was an incorrect current reading (1423A instead of 1500A) and the MIITS value was incorrect on the A1 bench on Saturday. Pierre informed that this is so as the current value is acquired when the current is decaying and there is no need to repeat the test.

Further, it was informed that there was a large discrepancy between the AQA current value and the voltmeter current reading on the C cluster during the training quenches. Equipment support will be looking into it.

19. There was a scanning problem on the A2 bench. Richard has informed that the Mobic scanner batteries need to be replaced.

For information to all: If the label on the magnet is incorrect / absent then a NC has to be opened for that magnet after looking up the name of the magnet in the paper traveller.

20. Nick has requested that special attention needs to be given (by everybody in the op team) while setting the priorities as this has got a direct consequence on the throughtput. If incorrect priorities are set then it can even lead to de - phasing (magnets on one or more clusters warm or cold at the same time).

That is all,

Have a nice week,

Regards,

Jaydeep.
