Dear Colleagues,

The details of the magnets tested during the week 06-2-2007 to 12-02-2007 are as follows:

Tests on 4 magnets were completed in this week, 2 dipoles( 2263 and 2423, both signed for stripping) and 2 Arc SSS (356 and 361, both signed for stripping).

Tests of first run of SSS529 were also completed in this week. Magnet is subjected to thermal cycle.

Superviser- Mr Stephane

Following are the minutes in brief:

1) From Wednesday the 14th February afternoon onwards, Mr. Marco Buzio will co-ordinate the tests instead of Stephan.

2) Problems with MQTL corrector powering were encountered in two magnets (SSS 529 and SSS 531). MQTL current crossed 500A on 9th ramp in SSS 531 on TBB2, and it was decided to stop further powering since the magnet MQTL is supposed to carry only 300A in the tunnel. However, about 23 ramps were done on MQTL of SSS 529 on TBD1 to reach nominal current, since the magnet is supposed to be powered to nominal current in the tunnel.

3) MQ of SSS 529 could not reach ultimate current in 9 training ramps. Hence it was subjected to ROBTC as per training rules, for which it had to be warmed up naturally since two cryo connectors were damaged. It could reach only about 200K, from where it was cooled down. Stephan clarified that this can be treated as ROBTC since it has crossed 80K. Cryo connectors are repaired.

4) A limited set of Magnetic Measurements will be performed on SSS 529 on TBD1. Single Stretched Wire measurements may be scheduled for SSS 374 on TBB1.

5) Richard informed that capillaries of MBAR 1334 on TBA1 has been replaced since HV failure was observed in CDBP phase of the previous run. Special attention shall be paid during CDBP in this run.

6) Difficulties in cooling down the magnet MBAR 2267 on TBF2 from 4.2K to 1.9K were encountered quite often. Cryo team had reported that there was some impurity in the connection line, which could be cleaned only after warming up the magnet. Hence the special magnetic measurement sequence was aborted and the magnet was warmed up.

7) Cryo leak was detected during capillary test in MBBR 2426 on TBE2. Connections were made with improper spring connectors. Magnet was disconnected and reconnected using proper connectors. Henceforth these connectors will be used for dipoles in this test bench.

8) Halik informed that the last dipole for the LHC, 2394, is expected to arrive on 13th February afternoon.

9) Louis Walckiers pointed out that the link ‘tests overview’ on SMTMS is getting blocked quite often due to improper entry of test dates. More care shall be taken while entering the test dates to follow the proper format.

That’s all was discussed in the meeting.

Have a nice week ahead.

Best Regards

S R Shimjith
