Dear Colleagues,

Following are the main point discussed in today’s meeting (Tuesday, 1st August 2006):

Test Coordinator : Arjan

Equipment Support : Frederico

Magnet Tests completed : 17

Dipoles : 8 ( 2 with Magnetic Measurement, 1 Repeat

ARC-SSS : 7 ( SSS119 repeated & 257-HV Problem)

IR-SSS : 0 (500 series : No magnet available) & 2 (600 series)

General Points

1. Condensation Problem: TBE2: Near CFB lot of condensation took place and could not be helped with blowers.

2. HV Rack Problems: Megger battery running down on MY92. OP team tried recharging as suggested by ES, but still the problem persists. Nick suggested ES to maintain at least 3 HV racks in healthy condition for smooth operation of Magnet testing.

3. Cryo: TBA1: It took lot of time to cool down the magnet MBBR2362 due to cryo problems.

4. MBBR2364: TBE1: Magnet label is not correct, as read by MOBIC.

5. Power Failure at CERN: On Saturday 29th July’06, major power failure / breakdown took place at CERN. Diesel Generator backup picked up but collapsed after some time. UPS, Access System and MTF were all not working leading to interruption in magnet testing.

6. Temp too high for Anti-Cryostat. Informed ES & Cryo. Cryo informed that because of disconnection of Anti-cryostat for repair and OP team gets an SMS every hour. This cann’t be cancelled.

7. New Magnet arriving in coming week ( as per Hallik ):

a. TBD1: SSS 646 has to be tested without Magnetic Measurement. Q7 will be connected by ICS.

b. TBD2: SSS618 will come to bench on Wednesday

c. TBB2: SSS528 will be changed for Q8 & Q11 by Friday or next week.

Result details Prev Week:

1. 25A Shift: TBF2: The power converter was tripped as power supply for the controller module overheated. Guy attended.

2. 25N Shift: TBC1: ES: During IAP at cold ( AC Compensation), all potaim cards were getting triggered immediately after applying the AC Voltage to AC Patch panel. It was observed that 2 Potaim cards (V-Clamp & V-Supra) were triggered when applied AC Voltage is above 0.5Vp-p. Guy observed that voltage taps were reversed inside CFB. A special connector is fitted to solve the problem and test resumed.

3. 25N Shift: TBD1: Temp too high for Anti-Cryostat.

4. 26M Shift: TBA2: MBAL2350 – E-traveler for PT13.1 & PT13.2 is signed but actual tests are not conducted, as requested by Richard (ES). HV test PT2 failed. ES carrying out further investigation.

5. 26N Shift: TBA1: PT4 could not be launched due to HW Recognition error. (due to TT821 parameters missing in MTF). HW Recognition is switched off for A1 and test continued.

6. 26N Shift: TBC1: During PT6.4 no data available in LF. No QH information available. AQA information was OK. ES informed.

7. 27M Shift: TBC2: In first run, the magnet had voltage taps problems. Quench could not be detected from actual and redundant signals as both of them are connected inside the magnet at the same point. Magnet to be signed for standby as the voltage tap problems still persists.

8. 28N Shift: TBE1: Problem in CDAP: Passive bus bar internal vs. external failed. Run recovery attempted three times but failed. ES attended.

9. 28N Shift: TBD1: Magnetic Measurement program giving alert (Motor Problem) while performing full load line at position (1340, 1338). There was over-range error both in Ap1 & Ap2. Also the Standard Deviation correction to shaft rotation was very high.

10. 29th Shift: Major Power supply failure at CERN. Water supply not available for 2 hours for D1 & B1.

11. 31M Shift: TBF: No current reading on F Bench. ES contacted. AB/PO was called. Sensor inside Power converter was not giving correct value. Problem solved.

12. 31A Shift: TBC1: IJ current lead seems to have too much contact resistance. So the current could not reach 60A. It gets the threshold voltage at 32A itself. Copper connector lead was replaced by ES

13. 31N Shift: TBD2: HV test problem due to MY92 rack battery low.

14. 31N Shift: TBE2: Condensation at current lead on CFB. HV Could not be carried out. Blower could not solve the problem. ES attended.

Results Summary of previous week:

1. SSS257: Repeat Magnet: Second run took 2 weeks. In first run, the magnet had voltage taps problems. Quench could not be detected from actual and redundant signals as both of them are connected inside the magnet at the same point.

2. SSS119: Repeat Magnet: Magnet was OK after thermal cycle.

3. SSS650: Repeat magnet: Magnetic Measurement on aperture 1 was OK. MM on Aperture 2 shows over-range in end sector. Results accepted in consultation with Guy. Shafts could not be put at cold in 1st Run. Problem was with Anti-cryostats which were bent. Magnet was warmed up and readjustment made before carrying out 2nd Run. It had long training time.

4. MBBR1363 had magnetic measurement; SSS623 & MBAL2351 had long training time.

5. It was suggested that ICS team should put the magnet considering the space required for personnel movement to enable OP team to carry out the tests.

With Warm Regards,
